Art City Bologna 2018: 11 Events Replace 200, Katarina Zdjelar at Le Corbusier Pavilion

Arte Fiera's collateral events in Bologna have been restructured for 2018, dropping from 200 to 11 events, now clearly separated from fair-related activities under the Polis network. Curated by Lorenzo Balbi, new director of MAMbo, Art City features a mini-exhibition by Katarina Zdjelar at Le Corbusier's Esprit Nouveau Pavilion, culminating in her two-channel video 'Into the Interior' about the de-installation of Europe's last colonial museum. Other interventions engage local museums: Alessandra Messali at La Specola presents a 'museographic incursion' on amateur astronomers' efforts to decipher the sky; Jacopo Mazzonelli creates a 'Sonography' at the International Museum of Music, emphasizing the basic element of composition, the sound sign; along via Zamboni, Home Movies and Giuseppe De Mattia reduce cinematic representation to elementary frame sequences in STREET/FRAMES. The highlight is Vadim Zakharov's performance 'Tunguska Event, History Marches on a Table' at the ex-GAM's Sala Maggiore, a synthetic, caustic, and amusing overview of European history from 1904 to 1917 in a surreal, ex-Soviet mood.
