Art Berlin 2018 Moves to Tempelhof Airport with 120 Galleries

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Art Berlin 2018, the second edition of the fair born from the merger of Art Cologne and abc art berlin contemporary, will take place at Tempelhof Airport from September 27 to 30. The fair will host 120 galleries from 21 countries, with over 90 in the main Galleries section. The Special Projects section includes 28 solo shows and curatorial projects. The Salon section, curated by Tenzing Barshee, groups artists represented by different galleries, including Italian ones such as Castiglioni Fine Arts (Milan), Fonti (Naples), Norma Mangione (Turin), and Federico Vavassori (Milan). Collaborative initiatives feature six Brazilian galleries presenting Latin American art and four Austrian galleries focusing on sculpture. The venue choice has influenced other Berlin art week fairs, with Positions occupying Hangar 4. Using airports for cultural events is not new: the Rijksmuseum opened a branch at Schiphol Airport in 2002, and Lugano Airport hosts a project by [dip] contemporary art. In Australia, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia partnered with Sydney Airport to promote local artists with site-specific installations.
