Art Basel Hong Kong and Frieze Los Angeles postpone 2021 editions due to pandemic travel restrictions

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Art Basel Hong Kong's 2021 edition has been rescheduled for May 21-23 with preview days on May 19-20, a two-month delay from its original dates. The fair will maintain its venue at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. According to Art Basel Asia director Adeline Ooi, the decision was made early to help galleries plan their 2021 programs amid ongoing pandemic-related international travel limitations. Participating galleries for ABHK will be revealed early next year. Meanwhile, Frieze Los Angeles has pushed its 2021 edition back five months to the week of July 26. The fair is abandoning its Paramount Studios location in favor of multiple sites across Los Angeles to leverage the city's distinctive architectural history and spaces. Frieze stated that this format and timing demonstrate its commitment to Los Angeles galleries and institutions while aiming to replicate past successes. The fair intends to revert to its traditional February schedule in 2022.
