Art and the Moving Image Symposium at BFI Southbank
The BFI Southbank in London will host a symposium called 'Art and the Moving Image' to celebrate the release of a critical reader bearing the same title. This event will explore the fifty-year evolution of the connection between art and cinema, highlighting early film and video experiments alongside the modern-day dominance of projected images in galleries. Series editor Charles Esche will kick off the event, featuring presentations and screenings by various authors, including Sabeth Buchmann discussing Helio Oiticica's Quasi-Cinemas, Bruce Jenkins on Fluxfilms, and William Kaizen on the evolving role of video. Artist Chantal Akerman will showcase her work, and Esche will lead a concluding discussion with Mike Sperlinger, writer and LUX Assistant Director. Tickets are priced at £15 (£11 for concessions).
