Art-72Rooms: Shanghai-Milan Artist Residency Launches at Former Buddhist Temple
Art-72Rooms, a new residency for artists established by Weicheng Zhong and Davide Crippa, has launched in a repurposed Buddhist temple located in Shanghai. Drawing inspiration from Crippa's 2017 Design Hostel showcased at Milan's Fuorisalone, this 1,200-square-meter venue emphasizes visual arts and cultural dialogue. Artists from both Eastern and Western backgrounds will reside and create here, with their works set to be displayed at Fuorisalone 2019 from April 8 to 14. The residency highlights Shikumen architecture and the significance of the number 72, representing natural elements and the balance of Yin and Yang. The building features a facade crafted from restoration paper and light installations, including Chiara Irico's Human Clock. In November, selected Italian artists from Interno 14 will participate during the Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair, presenting a variety of media.
