Ars Electronica 2018 Golden Nica Winners Announced
The Ars Electronica festival, held in Linz, Austria, revealed the winners of the 2018 Golden Nica awards, selected from over 3,000 submissions across 85 nations. The award ceremony is set for September 8, with winning works displayed at the OK Center for Contemporary Art. In the category of Interactive Art, the LarbitsSisters were recognized for their project "The BitSoil Popup Tax & Hack Campaign." The Digital Communities award went to Bellingcat, established by Eliot Higgins in 2014. Mathilde Lavenne was awarded the Computer Animation prize for "Tropics." The U19 award was presented to Austrian students Lorenz Gonsa, Martin Hatler, Samuel Stallybrass, and Vincent Thierry for "Levers and Buttons Five Hours of Sleep." Samuel Daurer and Ämilian Mayrhofer earned the Netidee Special Prize for "Out of Tune," while Roger Malina was acknowledged for the magazine Leonardo.
