Arqbag's brick and wood house descends the Baix Llobregat mountain

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

Arqbag has completed a single-family home in Cervelló, Baix Llobregat, that steps down the slope using two staggered volumes connected by a glazed atrium. The passive house relies on the mountain's thermal inertia and the Ordal range's fresh air for climate control, with a wood stove distributing heat. Exposed brick, pine ceilings, and Alicante-style wooden blinds create a material language that is both honest and functional. The central atrium captures winter sun and acts as a natural ventilation chimney in summer. The lower floor opens to a vegetable garden, while the main level features a water pool and a separate studio. Photographs by Marc Díaz and Júlia Dubois document the project.
