Aron Demetz's Autarkeia II at MARCA Catanzaro

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Aron Demetz (born 1972 in Vipiteno) presents his solo exhibition Autarkeia II (Il richiamo della natura) at MARCA in Catanzaro, curated by Alessandro Romanini and promoted by the Fondazione Rocco Guglielmo. The show continues the artist's exploration of material transformation and classical sculpture, featuring works in wood, bronze, plaster, and glass. Autarkeia, a project started in 2018, investigates the concept of self-sufficiency; its first edition was held at MANN in Naples in 2019. Demetz, a professor of plastic arts at the Academies of Fine Arts in Carrara and Venice, emphasizes the dialogue between material and form, stating that "matter commands" and that each material suggests different solutions. The exhibition includes recent and unpublished pieces that highlight the fragility of the human figure. In an interview, Demetz reflects on his connection to Val Gardena, the influence of Magna Graecia sculpture, and his view of the classical as "a canon of balance and harmony that every era rewrites." He describes Autarkeia as "an acceptable imbalance" and "a laboriously attainable autonomy."
