Arne Quinze's Painting and Ceramics in the Pistoian Apennines

exhibition · 2026-05-02

Belgian artist Arne Quinze presents 'I'm a Gardener' at OCA – Oasy Contemporary Art and Architecture in the Oasi Dynamo nature reserve on the Pistoian Apennines, running until November 1, 2026. The exhibition, housed in a former stable, features large-scale paintings that explode with color, creating an immersive experience. Quinze's practice is rooted in his wildflower garden in Belgium, an ecosystem of nearly five thousand plants, where art and care coincide. Concurrently, the sculpture 'Ceramorphia' is inaugurated in the reserve, born from a meeting two years ago between Quinze and OCA artistic director Emanuele Montibeller at the Venice Biennale. The ceramic work, reminiscent of succulents, explores the relationship between art and landscape. A catalog published by Metilene accompanies the show. The reserve's loop trail also features works by Kengo Kuma ('Dynamo Pavilion'), Mariangela Gualtieri and Michele De Lucchi ('Nella terra il cielo'), Matteo Thun ('Fratelli Tutti'), Quayola ('Erosions'), Alejandro Aravena ('Self-regulation'), David Svensonn ('Home of the World'), and Pascale Marthine Tayou ('Plastic Bags'). In summer 2026, two new works will be added: 'Vanishing Horizon' by collective fuse*, a corten steel installation about black holes, and 'Deus Sive Natura What I Believe' by Stefano Boeri, a ten-meter-long Carrara marble kneeler oriented toward the horizon, inspired by the Canticle of the Creatures, J.G. Ballard's 'What I Believe', and Spinozan pantheism.
