Armory Show and Frieze New York 2017: New Sections and Expanded Programs
The Armory Show, taking place from March 1-5, 2017, is set to undergo significant transformations, merging its contemporary and modern editions into one comprehensive event that encompasses both the 20th and 21st centuries. The modern segment, which was introduced in 2009, will now be known as Insights, showcasing solo exhibits, dual presentations, and thematic displays. Additionally, a new section named Platform, curated by Eric Shiner, who is Sotheby's vice president and a former director of the Andy Warhol Museum, will feature large-scale installations and site-specific pieces from 12 artists, including Ai Weiwei and Yayoi Kusama. Meanwhile, Frieze New York will return to Randall's Island from May 5-7, 2017, boasting a robust exhibitor lineup and 190 booths from 30 countries, with no Italian artists featured in the Spotlight section curated by Toby Kamps.
