Armory Show 2023: Fiber Art, Italian Diaspora, and Ecological Upcycling

The Armory Show marked its third September edition at the Javits Center, signaling the start of the autumn art season in the U.S. Despite notable absences like Alfonso Artiaco, Cardi, De Carlo, and Mazzoleni, the fair remained a crucial gathering for galleries and collectors. This year, the event featured a growing presence of fiber and textile art, with works by Analia Saban, Sagarika Sundaram, Vanessa German, and Pae White. Ecological concerns were evident in upcycled pieces by Moffat Takadiwa and Jean Shin. Alongside the Armory Show, the inaugural New York edition of Photofairs Shanghai took place at the same venue, hosting 90 international photography exhibitors. Italian participation was limited to Montrasio Arte at Photofairs, while Italian diaspora artists like Federico Solmi, Luisa Rabbia, and Francesco Simeti were featured at various galleries. The fair runs from September 8-10, 2023, with its 30th anniversary in 2024.
