Armin Linke's Photographic Inquiry at PAC Milan

The PAC in Milan presents 'L'apparenza di ciò che non si vede' (The Appearance of What Is Not Seen), a solo exhibition by photographer and filmmaker Armin Linke, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa and Philipp Ziegler. The show runs until January 6, 2017. Linke, born in Milan in 1966 and based in Berlin, treats photography not as a fixed final product but as a device to spark discussion. The exhibition features over 130 photographs displayed on white frames without walls, designed by Ignazio Gardella, creating a navigable landscape of 'hypertexts' where visitors move through physical space to select and associate images. Soundscapes from audio recordings and selected images by various interpreters fill the space. The curatorial process began with digitizing negatives and developing software for access by artists, curators, researchers, economists, and diplomats. The catalog combines commissioned texts with reprints of foundational essays on industrial design, photography, and Linke's archive. Experts involved include Ariella Azoulay, Bruno Latour, Peter Weibel, Mark Wigley, Jan Zalasiewicz, Lorraine Daston, Irene Giardina, and Franco Farinelli. The exhibition covers over twenty years of Linke's work on nature, design history, technological developments, and economic and environmental changes linked to globalization.
