Arizona State University Launches Bachelor's Degree in Content Creation for Aspiring Influencers

Arizona State University has launched a Bachelor of Arts in Content Creation at its Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, aimed at future social media influencers and digital storytellers. This program, which received approval from the university senate earlier this year, addresses the expanding creator economy. Coursework will cover areas such as content strategy, audience analytics, multimedia production, podcasting, social media marketing, and videography, including a key class called 'How to Become an Influencer.' For their capstone project, students must select a platform—like TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube—to devise a growth strategy, create content, and cultivate a real audience with measurable outcomes. Jessica Pucci, senior associate dean, noted that guidance from seasoned faculty can enhance the learning experience. By graduation, students should have a developed platform with engagement metrics for potential employers or sponsors, alongside traditional general education courses in math, history, and writing. Practical experiences are available in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and online.
