Arianna Matta's Paintings of Disorientation at RVB Arts, Rome

Arianna Matta (Rome, 1979) presents a solo exhibition at RVB Arts in Rome, on view until November 12, 2016. The show features paintings that transform familiar interiors—a bourgeois living room, a school classroom, a bar—into indeterminate, almost monochrome spaces. Matta's thick, lavish brushstrokes create a veil-like intermediate dimension, leaving the viewer suspended between memory and imagination, the lived and the livable. The works hover at the edge of dissolution, as if the image were about to fade out like a screen, yet stubbornly persists in a final frame. The exhibition is reviewed by Luigi Meneghelli.
