Arianna Carossa's 4,080-Mile Van Journey Across America to Install Sculptures in Nevada Desert

artist · 2026-04-26

Italian artist Arianna Carossa undertook a five-day, 4,080-mile van journey from Brooklyn, New York, to the Nevada desert to install sculptures created in collaboration with Brembo, curated by Luca Bochicchio. The trip, described as an almost epic challenge akin to Fitzcarraldo's ship transport, involved crossing New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and finally Nevada. Sound designer Marc Urselli joined in Las Vegas to complete the sound sculptures installation. The journey included stops in Columbus (Ohio), Columbia (Missouri), Burlington (Colorado), Grand Junction (Colorado), Cedar City (Utah), and Las Vegas, culminating in the Valley of Fire. Carossa reflected on the transformative experience, comparing it to a spiritual crossing where the artworks evolved with each mile, ultimately finding their home in the desert landscape.
