Argentine Abstract Painter Ides Kihlen Dies at 108
Ides Kihlen, the Argentine abstract painter who had her first solo exhibition at age 85, died on April 14 at 108. Her death was announced by Galería Via Margutta in Córdoba, which represented her since 2012. Born in Santa Fe Province in 1917, she moved to Buenos Aires as a teenager, studying at the National School of Decorative Arts and the National Conservatory. She turned to abstraction in the 1960s, developing a lyrical style combining geometric forms, line work, and collage on diverse supports. Her first retrospective came in 2002 at the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Buenos Aires. Later solo shows included the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and the Emilio Caraffa Fine Arts Museum. She is survived by daughters Ingrid González Monteagudo and Silvia González Kihlen.
