ARFOC's TURI Exhibition Confronts Brazil's Forest Fires Through Photojournalism
The ARFOC, or the Association of Photographic and Cinematographic Reporters of São Paulo, has put together an exhibition called TURI, featuring the work of 24 photographers who highlight the ongoing damage to Brazil's forests and ecosystems. This exhibit is on display at Odisseia Casa Cultural in central São Paulo until June 5, 2022. It originated from an invitation to the 2021 Paranapiacaba Photography Festival, where ARFOC changed its theme from water to forest fires. Under the leadership of Toni Pires, the association transformed a city house into an engaging space filled with photos, videos, and sound. The title, which means 'fire' in Tupi-Guarani, reflects ancestral knowledge, and the photographers aim to raise awareness about the destruction in the Legal Amazon, Pantanal, and Atlantic Forest.
