ArcoLisboa 2021 Cancelled, Returns in Digital Format for Second Year

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

For the second consecutive year, the ArcoLisboa art fair, typically held in May, will take place exclusively online. The digital edition will run from September 13 to 19, 2021, with VIP access starting September 12, via the Arco E-Xhibitions platform. The cancellation of the physical event in Lisbon is due to the worsening health situation in the Iberian Peninsula and scheduling conflicts with other major European art fairs, including miart and Art Basel, now also set for September. Meanwhile, the parallel fair JustLX, organized by the same team behind JustMad, has been postponed to May 2022 (18–22) and will not offer a digital version. In contrast, the Madrid fair ARCO, held in early July 2021 at Ifema, attracted around 250 international collectors and over 20,000 art professionals, including museum directors and private foundation heads. The fair reported satisfaction with the quality of artistic proposals and the level of institutional and corporate acquisitions, aided by health measures. Gallerists participating in JustMad, the only parallel fair in Madrid concurrent with ARCO in July, were also pleased with business and contacts.
