Arcipelago Fossile: site-specific art trail opens in Cortina d'Ampezzo woods
The exhibition 'SENTIERI D’ARTE, Arcipelago fossile' opens July 25 and runs until November 2, 2020, along the Gores de Federa and Pian de ra Spines trails in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Curated by Fulvio Chimento and Carlotta Minarelli, the show features three artists—Federico Tosi (born 1988, Milan), Alessandro Ferri (Dado) (born 1975, Bologna), and T-yong Chung (born 1977, Tae-gu, South Korea)—each creating site-specific works that engage with the local geology, vegetation, and human intellect. Tosi's pieces address the fossil aspect, Ferri uses fallen fir trees for large installations, and Chung produces mask-portraits of philosophers and researchers. The project is supported by the Municipality of Cortina, Regole d'Ampezzo, the Liceo Artistico di Cortina, Associazione Controcorrente di Bologna, and Quiqueg creative agency (Milan). The concept draws from the Dolomites' geological history as a former ocean (Tethys Sea, 240 million years ago), with fossils of marine life found in the area. The works are meant to be discovered accidentally by hikers, blending art and nature without spectacle.
