Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti Launches Book Series at GNAM Rome

publication · 2026-05-04

The Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti, founded by Germana Agnetti and Guido Barbato, presented a new editorial series of small books documenting the conceptual artist's work at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome. The presentation, moderated by Claudia Palma, featured critical readings by Francesca Gallo and Bruno Corà, who shared personal recollections of Agnetti. Germana Agnetti explained that the archive aims to counteract two main 'oxidants': aging and forgetfulness, by recontextualizing the artist's work through contemporary critical contributions, documents, images, and texts. The series currently comprises three booklets. Upcoming exhibitions include a show at the Museo Novecento in Florence between February and March, and another at a gallery called Zero... in March, with a further group show planned for autumn. Germana recalled her father's passion for language and theatre, noting that their invented language games later surfaced in works like 'Sei villaggi differenti' (1974). She emphasized that for Agnetti, technique served thought, with materials like bakelite, felt, and photography chosen to embody concepts. The color black was significant, though early 'drogata machine' works were colorful. The interview was conducted by Donatella Giordano.
