Archivio Luce turns 100 with podcast, film, and Quayola installation
Established in 1924, the Istituto Luce, which evolved into the Archivio Luce, has chronicled the changes in Italy and Europe for a century. The archive houses over 77,000 films and 5 million photographs spanning from the early 1900s to the present, capturing significant moments from the Fascist Ventennio, the post-war era, and the Italian economic boom. In anticipation of its centennial in 2024, a series of events has been unveiled. Chiara Sbarigia, President of Cinecittà and overseer of the Archivio Luce, referred to it as "the visual biography of our country." The first event is the podcast "Luce e Controluce," launching on April 16, narrated by Andrea Zalone and produced by Chora Media. A collective film titled "Cento anni di Luce," featuring eight directors, will also be created, alongside the re-release of 15 historically significant films in Italian cinemas over 30 weeks. An installation by Quayola will showcase computational paintings at Teatro 18 in Cinecittà, focusing on themes of urban life and dance.
