Archivio di Stato di Chieti hosts conference on Matteotti archives and digitization

On September 14, 2024, the State Archive of Chieti will host a roundtable titled 'What Archival Science Can Do: Matteotti in History and in Archive Papers' at the Auditorium V. Cianfarani, from 9 AM to 5 PM. The event is part of the centenary commemorations of the death of Giacomo Matteotti (1885–1924), the Italian socialist politician and antifascist. It was made possible by the digitization and inventory work on the documentary sources of the Matteotti Trial, begun in 2023 under former director Rosangela Guerra and now led by Maria Amicarelli. The conference aims to establish the State Archive of Chieti as a national reference point for studies on Matteotti's death, the 2026 trial of his assassins, and the fascist period, leveraging its extensive documentation from the local Fascist Party archive. High-profile archivists and university lecturers will participate. In 2024, the archive also signed a three-year agreement (2024–2026) with the universities of Chieti, Teramo, and L'Aquila to create an 'Abruzzo system' for original research on the fascist era through a national network of archives.
