Architectural Huts Take Over Donjon de Vez
The donjon de Vez in the Oise region of France is hosting an exhibition titled "Cabanes d'architectes" until October 30, 2022. Organized by Francis Briest, the owner of the donjon, and curated by Alexandre Devals with Galerie Philippe Gravier, the show features habitable sculptures and architect-designed huts. Notable participants include Kengo Kuma, Odile Decq, Antti Lovag, Claude Parent, Sou Fujimoto, Studio Rift, La Fratrie, Marc Leschelier, Tadashi Kawamata, and the late Serge Mansau. Kuma contributes three tea ceremony huts: Fu-An, a floating inflatable structure covered in white organza; Owan, a steel mesh form requiring contortion; and Yure, a three-level wooden assembly evoking a forest. The exhibition draws on Vitruvian and Laugierian theories of the primitive hut as the origin of architecture. The donjon's park, designed by the late Pascal Cribier, also houses a permanent sculpture collection.
