Architects Richard Rogers and Chris Wilkinson, Pioneers of British High-Tech Design, Pass Away
Richard Rogers, renowned for designing the Centre Pompidou in Paris and London's Lloyds Building, passed away at the age of 88. Chris Wilkinson, the founder of WilkinsonEyre, died at 75, with the announcement made on December 16. Born in Tuscany, Italy, Rogers relocated to England at six and attended the Architectural Association from 1954 to 1959. He later received a master’s degree from Yale School of Architecture in 1962 on a Fulbright Scholarship, where he met Norman Foster and Su Brumwell. In 1971, he collaborated with Renzo Piano to win the Pompidou competition. Wilkinson, who cited Rogers and Foster as influences, worked under Rogers for five years and later established his own firm in 1983, known for projects like the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
