Architect Will Alsop Dies at 70, Known for Vibrant Public Buildings and Peckham Library

Will Alsop, the British architect, passed away at age 70 following a brief illness, as reported by the Guardian. He gained recognition for his colorful structures that integrated public areas, such as the Ontario College of Art and Design completed in 2004. In 2000, Alsop received the RIBA Stirling Prize for designing Peckham Library. His career included challenges, like a waterfront development in Liverpool and an art center in West Bromich. After leaving the firm RMJM, he established aLL Design in 2011. This practice has undertaken various projects, including a cultural quarter in Chongqing, Southwestern China, and an agricultural leisure park in Yubei to the north. Alsop once expressed a vision in a 2008 interview, advocating for buildings to float above ground to prioritize public spaces and gardens.
