Architect Salvatore Bisogni dies at 86
Salvatore Bisogni, the Neapolitan architect and professor, died on Tuesday, September 25, in Naples at age 86. The Accademia di San Luca announced his death; it had awarded him the President of the Republic Prize in 2008. A student of Ludovico Quaroni and Luigi Cosenza, Bisogni co-designed the ZEN district in Palermo with Vittorio Gregotti and Franco Purini, a project that failed due to political mismanagement. He also worked on the new town of Monterusciello in Pozzuoli, designed by Agostino Renna, with whom Bisogni published a study on city and landscape. His built works in Naples include a market in Montecalvario, a school in Traiano, and a kindergarten in Poggioreale. The kindergarten was praised by Kenneth Frampton in Casabella in 1990 for its compositional equilibrium. Bisogni taught architectural composition at the university and presented projects for Montecalvario at La Triennale di Milano. He was included in the 2012 exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris dedicated to the Tendenza movement.
