Architect César Pelli dies at 92, remembered for Petronas Towers and Milan's Piazza Gae Aulenti
César Pelli, an architect originally from Argentina who transformed Milan's skyline with the UniCredit Tower and Piazza Gae Aulenti, passed away at the age of 92. He was born in Tucumán, Argentina, in 1926 and received his degree in architecture before relocating to the United States in 1952. Pelli collaborated with Eero Saarinen on the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport and later joined DMJM and Gruen Associates. He served as the dean of Yale University School of Architecture from 1977 to 1984 and established Cesar Pelli & Associates, which was renamed Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in 2005. His prominent projects include the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the World Financial Center in New York, and the Canary Wharf Tower in London.
