Architect Andrea Bruno, restorer of Castello di Rivoli, dies at 94

Andrea Bruno, the renowned Italian architect celebrated for his restoration of the Castello di Rivoli and his UNESCO efforts in Afghanistan, passed away at the age of 94. He was born in 1931 and received his education at the Politecnico di Torino, where he championed a harmonious blend of preservation and modern design. The Castello di Rivoli, Italy's inaugural contemporary art museum, which opened in 1984, stands as one of his key achievements. Since 1974, he served as a UNESCO consultant, overseeing conservation initiatives for the Bamiyan Buddhas and the Minaret of Jam, among others. His restoration projects also included Turin's Museo del Risorgimento, Palazzo Mazzonis (2008), and the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (1991-2000). In 2019, he donated his archive to IUAV University of Venice and taught at several institutions.
