Architect Alessia Garibaldi's Eclectic Art and Design Collection

Alessia Garibaldi, an architect and collector, blends design pieces, ancient sculptures, and photographs in her collection. She started with photography due to architects like Gabriele Basilico who captured urban symbols. She values installations and performances that transform spaces temporarily, citing Olafur Eliasson's sun at Tate Modern and Arcangelo Sassolino's stressed wooden beams in San Gimignano. In design, she sees connections to art history, referencing Zaha Hadid alongside Boccioni and Malevič. Currently, she focuses on artists from less developed countries or those with contested civil rights, such as Michele Mathison (Zimbabwe), Joel Andrianomearisoa (Madagascar), El Anatsui, and Sheila Hicks. Her design interests include Dutch designers, limited series from Apparatus Studio (New York), unique pieces by Michael Anastassiades (London), and Dante Goods and Bads (Germany). She admires projects where companies send designers to developing countries for self-production, like Moroso's Bandoli chair by Sebastian Herkner inspired by ostrich courtship dance and produced in Africa, and Marni's chairs and lamps by Consuelo Castiglioni made by Colombian women. Garibaldi's collection is housed at Studio DC10 in Uboldo, Varese, Italy.
