Archie Moore's Installation at Australia Pavilion Explores Indigenous History at 60th Venice Biennale
Archie Moore is set to unveil a significant immersive installation at the Australia Pavilion during the 60th Venice Biennale, which will take place from April 20 to November 24, 2024, in the Giardini. Collaborating with Torres Strait Islander architect Kevin O'Brien and curator Ellie Buttrose, the installation explores millennia of Indigenous concepts surrounding place and kinship. Moore intends to create a connection between the pavilion and the canal, shedding light on First Nations history and current issues. His artistic journey is therapeutic, drawing from personal artifacts, as demonstrated in his 2022 exhibition Dwelling (Victorian Issue). He also looks forward to the works of Eva Kotátková, Jeffrey Gibson, John Akomfrah RA, and Innuteq Storch while confronting misconceptions about Aboriginal art, referencing Kamilaroi dendroglyphs and his United Neytions flag installation.
