Arcgency and MAST complete floating community space Bedding 1 in Copenhagen
Bedding 1, a floating guesthouse and community area, has been finalized by Danish firms Arcgency and MAST. This structure is anchored next to Christiansholm, an artificial island in Copenhagen's Arsenalgraven canal, and marks the first of three planned floating buildings, which will feature piers and a floating garden for the Papirøen (Paper Island) project. The design, built by Krohns Bådbyggeri, the last operational shipyard in central Copenhagen, utilizes Douglas fir and is topped with an anodised zinc roof. Spanning two levels and 230 square metres, the upper deck offers a versatile event space, while the lower level includes two guest apartments with access to a covered timber terrace. Arcgency’s Mads Møller emphasized the project’s role in revitalizing urban waterfronts into vibrant public areas. The masterplan for Paper Island was created by Cobe. MAST has also recently worked on a floating residential area in a former dock in Rotterdam.
