Arcangelo Esposito's 40-Year Career Celebrated in Dual Exhibition

Arcangelo Esposito (Avellino, 1956) presents a double exhibition titled "Le mie mani toccano la terra" curated by Emma Zanella, spanning a retrospective at MA*GA in Gallarate and a project at Terminal 1 of Malpensa Airport. The show covers his career from the 1980s "Terra mia" cycle through "Pianeti," "Misteri," "Tappeti persiani," and recent works influenced by African lands. Esposito, who never aligned with the Transavanguardia movement, describes himself as a painter against bad painting. He worked with German and Swiss galleries early on, including Galleria Buchmann in Basel, where he prepared a 1984 exhibition in a Swiss castle where Mario Merz had previously shown. His practice incorporates mixed techniques like frottage, using ashes and charcoal, and he also works as a sculptor in bronze, wax, and ceramic. The airport venue, open until March 10, 2020, engages travelers in transit, while the MA*GA retrospective runs until March 1, 2020. Esposito's latest series "Fiori di croco" draws inspiration from an ancient Greco-Roman flower along the Appian Way near Avellino.
