Arcadia Auction in Rome Presents Rediscovered Old Master Paintings

Arcadia auction house will hold its 'Important Old Master Paintings' sale in Rome on December 2, 2025, featuring rediscovered works from prestigious private collections. The auction preview runs from November 27 to December 1. Highlights include 31 lots from the historic Giulio Sterbini collection, one of early 20th-century Rome's most notable collections, focused on 15th- and 16th-century Florentine and Central Italian art. Key pieces include Lippo d'Andrea's 'Martirio di San Lorenzo' (estimate €15,000-20,000) and a tondo from the workshop of Lorenzo di Credi (estimate €80,000-120,000). Other works span the 14th to 18th centuries, with Florentine Renaissance, Caravaggesque, and 18th-century pieces. Notable lots include Arcangelo di Jacopo del Sellaio's 'Madonna col Bambino e San Giovannino' (€20,000-30,000), Giovanni Antonio Sogliani's 'Cristo risorto mostra le sue piaghe', Giacomo Francia's 'Sacra Famiglia con Santa Caterina d'Alessandria e San Giovannino' (€15,000-20,000), a rare terracotta relief by Bartolomeo Mazzuoli (€4,000-8,000), and Simondio Salimbeni's portrait of Girolamo Piccolomini. Caravaggesque works include Aurelio Martelli's 'Maria Maddalena' and 'San Girolamo', the latter recalling Jusepe de Ribera's 'San Bartolomeo' at the Prado.
