Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook's career survey explores dogs, death, and retirement in Chiang Mai

exhibition · 2026-04-19

The MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai has launched a two-part exhibition celebrating Thai artist Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook's 45-year journey, titled The Bouquet and the Wreath. This showcase includes more than 70 pieces, such as the large wooden structure Ban Wang Hma (Dogs' Palatial Castle) (2025) and an eight-channel video installation called The Same Old Karma Landscape (2025). Now in her late sixties, Rasdjarmrearnsook plans to retire and has chosen to stop accepting new commissions, although she has created new works for this exhibition. Curated by Roger Nelson and Kittima Chareeprasit, it delves into themes of death and desire, featuring 13 realistic dog sculptures. A related exhibition is also on display at the 100 Tonson Foundation in Bangkok until 18 January, while the second part will debut at Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai on 5 November. The Chiang Mai exhibition will be open until 25 May.
