Ara Güler Retrospective at Museo di Roma in Trastevere
A significant retrospective showcasing the work of Turkish photographer Ara Güler (1928–2018) has commenced at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Ara Güler Museum, and the Ara Güler Archive and Research Center. Renowned as the 'Eye of Istanbul,' Güler was an internationally recognized photojournalist with deep connections to his birthplace. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan praised him as a 'global brand' and a source of national pride, highlighting him as 'one of the most uplifting testimonies of the figure of the true artist' in Turkey. The display features 45 black-and-white images of Istanbul from the 1950s, alongside 37 portraits of prominent figures, including Federico Fellini and Winston Churchill. Turkish Ambassador to Italy Murat Salim Esenli noted that such exhibitions foster closer ties between the two nations.
