Apulia Land Art Festival 2018: Casa Rossa in Alberobello Hosts International Artists

The Apulia Land Art Festival, founded in 2012 by Carlo Palmisano, returns for its 2018 edition in Alberobello, Italy, at the historic Casa Rossa. The venue, a former agrarian institute built in 1887 that later served as a fascist internment camp, has been abandoned for over 30 years. The festival aims to revive the site through land art, with works by 11 selected artists from an open call of over 70 proposals. Artists include Pietro Guida, who created a new sculpture for the festival, and Nini Pasquale Santoro, whose monumental work was conceived 40 years ago. The festival is dedicated to the late artist Jolanda Spagno, who was to participate with a site-specific project titled "un orizzonte spezzato." Directors Carlo Palmisano and Martina (co-director) oversee the event, with curators Carmelo Cipriani (artist residency), Giuseppe Capparelli (environmental installations), and Fabio De Chirico (special project). The festival emphasizes community involvement, with local residents providing housing, food, and materials. The event is supported by the Comune di Alberobello, Assessorato alla cultura, Fondazione Casa Rossa, and Apulia region.
