Apulia Land Art Festival 2017: Salt as Art in Margherita di Savoia

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

From September 8 to 10, 2017, the fifth edition of Apulia Land Art, an itinerant festival, will take place at the Salina di Margherita di Savoia in the province of Barletta, Puglia. Titled 'SaliNatura', the event explores salt as a precious resource for the territory and community. The festival aims to foster dialogue between contemporary art and landscape, promoting site-specific works that address environmental sustainability and ecology. Artists include Nirit Rechavi (Israel), Francesco di Tillo (Italy), Sonia Andresano (Italy), Laura Cionci & Domenico de Clario (Italy/Australia), Connor Maley & Victoria DeBlassie (USA), Francesco Romanelli (Italy), Andreas Zampella (Italy), Rosa Tharrats & Gabriel Ventura (Spain), Elisabetta Serpi & Anahi Angela Mariotti (Italy), and Paolo Uboldi (Italy). They will create installations and performances over ten days, curated by Helia Hamedani and Girolamo Pizzetti. A site-specific intervention by Iginio De Luca is also planned. The 'Contributi' section, curated by Giuseppe Capparelli, will place six permanent works in the town center by Felice Tagliaferri, Ninni Donato, Angela Pellicanò, Giulio Manglaviti, Riccardo Murelli, and Luigi Loquarto. The festival opens on September 1 with the Premio Città Etica award, followed by 'Disseminazione', a symbolic scattering of diamonds by the mayor to represent the value of sea salt.
