Berlin-based rapper Apsilon, born Arda, released his new album Glanz Null last week, exploring themes of identity, social contradictions, and the search for a lost childhood glow. In an interview with Anazin Akpo for Sleek Magazine, Apsilon discussed his Turkish roots, musical influences, and the creative process behind the album. He highlighted the album's accompanying magazine, which features contributions from Wolfgang Tillmans, Gamze Kubaşık (daughter of NSU murder victim Mehmet Kubaşık), and his brother and producer Arman. Apsilon also reflected on his Zero Euro Tour, a series of free shows aimed at making live music accessible amid economic struggles. He addressed the contradictions of modern Germany, referencing his song Sommermärchen which juxtaposes World Cup euphoria with the NSU murders, and criticized government spending on defense over social services. Apsilon emphasized the importance of vulnerability in his music, noting that songs like Berg are among his most personal.
