Apple to Expand AI Photo Editing in iOS 27 with Extend, Enhance, Reframe
Apple is set to introduce new AI-powered photo editing tools in iOS 27 this fall, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The tools, branded as Apple Intelligence Tools, include Extend (AI-based image expansion beyond original frame), Enhance (automatic color and lighting adjustment), and Reframe (perspective shifting for spatial photos made for Vision Pro). These build on the existing Clean Up tool. However, Extend and Reframe have not fully passed testing and may be delayed or scaled back. Apple has been cautious with AI photo editing compared to rivals Samsung and Google, with Craig Federighi stating in 2024 that Apple wants to keep photos true to reality. Separately, Apple is overhauling Siri with a dedicated app and ChatGPT-like interface, and improving battery performance.
