Apple and New Museum launch AR art walks in six cities
Apple has partnered with New Museum to launch [AR]T, a series of augmented reality art experiences available at Apple Stores worldwide from August 10, 2019. The initiative is part of Apple's Today at Apple program and includes three components: [AR]T walks, interactive guided tours featuring works by Nick Cave, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Cao Fei, John Giorno, Carsten Höller, and Pipilotti Rist in New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Hong Kong, and Tokyo; [AR]T Lab, a workshop led by artist Sarah Rothberg of NEW INC teaching participants to create AR experiences using Swift Playgrounds; and an in-store installation titled Amass by Nick Cave, viewable globally via the [AR]T Viewer in the Apple Store app. New Museum director Lisa Phillips stated that AR is a mature medium for dynamic storytelling that extends artistic practice beyond the studio. Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's senior vice president of Retail + People, expressed hope that participants would be inspired by the AR creations. Registration is available at apple.com/today.
