Apparte Home Gallery: Female Collective Launches Domestic Exhibition Format in Palermo

A new all-female collective, Apparte Home Gallery, has launched in Palermo, offering an alternative exhibition space within a private apartment. The group consists of six young women from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo who describe themselves as a curatorial collective. Their inaugural show, "Chaos," featured photographer Caterina Quartararo, whose work explores the intersection of art and science. The one-night event included a small concert and aperitivo, with attendees required to reserve via the website and receive location details only after booking. The collective aims to fill a gap in Palermo's contemporary art scene, which they believe is ripe for a home gallery model. Their next project involves an open call for illustrators on the theme of "home," with submissions due by May 14. The subsequent exhibition will open on May 31 at Bar Garibaldi in Palermo. The name "Apparte" combines "appartamento" (apartment) and "arte" (art), or suggests being "a parte" (apart) from traditional art spaces. The initiative draws inspiration from precedents like Hans Ulrich Obrist's kitchen exhibition, My Little House (2014), and Casa Vuota in Rome.
