Aperture releases limited-edition Gillian Laub print exploring family dynamics and political divides

Aperture has released a special pigment print by photographer Gillian Laub, titled "Grandma grabbing Grandpa’s tush, 2000." This piece is part of her Family Matters series, which explores social and political divides in America through personal family portraits captured over twenty years. Laub's work particularly focuses on the impact of Donald Trump's polarizing language within families nationwide. Born in 1975 in Chappaqua, New York, Laub examines themes of privilege, unity, vulnerability, and resilience using her own relatives. She emphasizes that understanding family dynamics is crucial to addressing larger societal issues, including wealth, aging, and political strife. The print, measuring 11 x 14 inches, is signed and numbered, limited to an edition of 20 plus 3 artist proofs. Each piece is meticulously hand-packed and ships from New York within 3–5 days. Laub, who earned a Bachelor’s in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York, previously published Testimony (2007) with Aperture and created Southern Rites (2015), a book and HBO film. In 2019, she was awarded a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts. The Family Matters series ultimately reflects on familial ties while highlighting the current divisions in the United States.
