Aperture Launches First Record Release: As We Rise: Sounds from the Black Atlantic LP

On October 24, 2023, Aperture unveiled its inaugural album, "As We Rise: Sounds from the Black Atlantic LP," which honors Black music from around the world. This record includes contributions from artists like Tenor Saw, Jeff Parker, Cymande, and Miriam Makeba. It builds upon the 2021 photobook "As We Rise: Photography from the Black Atlantic," which features works from The Wedge Collection, the largest repository of Black artists' works in Canada, established by Dr. Kenneth Montague in 1997. The collection boasts over one hundred pieces from diverse regions. Montague has been a board member of the Art Gallery of Ontario since 2015 and also founded Wedge Curatorial Projects to uplift emerging Black talent.
