Anxiety-inducing nature show in Lodi responds to environmental crisis

In Lodi, one of the cities hardest hit by the first pandemic, gallerist Pierpaolo Curti has mounted 'Natura risponde' at Spazio 21, a group exhibition addressing the environmental disaster. Fourteen artists present works without direct protest but with many stimuli. The show includes a 1972 video by Cioni Carpi digging into a meadow, a giant reproduction of Massimo Vitali's photograph of a rainy July 14, 2000 picnic at Jardin du Luxembourg (chosen by Harald Szeemann for his 2021 Biennale), Davide Tagliabue's installation on almond trees and Xylella in Salento, Jacopo Valentini's photographs of poplar groves quoting Ettore Sottsass, Alberto Messina's black-and-white series of fallen leaves, and Nicola Toffolini's drawings on human unpreparedness for asteroid impacts and ocean pollution. Curti states the space is his studio, used for exhibitions without sales or payments, as a response to Tonelli's question 'What happened to artists?'.
