Antwerp's 'we refuse_d' exhibition unites artists previously canceled after October 7, 2023

The exhibition 'we refuse_d' at the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst (M HKA) in Antwerp showcases the works of 15 artists, many of whom have experienced cancellations following October 7, 2023. Curated by Vasıf Kortun and Nadia Radwan, this display draws inspiration from the 1863 Paris Salon des Refusés, aiming to amplify marginalized perspectives. Artists such as Emily Jacir, Samia Halaby, and Jumana Manna faced the cancellation of their shows in Germany due to their positions on Palestine. Launched in mid-March, the exhibition explores themes of Palestinian history and resistance through diverse mediums. Highlights include Taysir Batniji's 'Homeless Colors,' Manna's installation with prisoner quotes, and Halaby's paintings.
