Antony Gormley's 'Time Horizon' to Debut in UK at Houghton Hall

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Antony Gormley's large-scale installation 'Time Horizon' will be presented at Houghton Hall in Norfolk from April 21 to October 31, 2024. The work, originally conceived in 2006 for the Parco di Scolacium in Catanzaro, Italy, makes its UK debut. It comprises 100 cast-iron human figures, each 190 cm tall and weighing 620 kg, positioned across the 300-acre park. The sculptures are placed at varying heights on concrete plinths, from a few centimeters to 4 meters, aligned with the geodetic datum. Gormley emphasizes the viewer's experience, stating that the installation is an open field where light, season, weather, and the viewer's state of mind all play a role. Houghton Hall, built by Prime Minister Robert Walpole in 1722, has hosted contemporary sculpture exhibitions since 2000, featuring artists like James Turrell, Jeppe Hein, and Anish Kapoor. The 2024 season also includes ceramicist Magdalene Odundo with works inside the residence from June 9.
