Antony Gormley Major Retrospective at Royal Academy of Arts London
The Royal Academy of Arts in London will host a major retrospective of Sir Antony Gormley (born 1950) starting in September 2019, the most significant exhibition of the British artist in the UK in the last decade. The show will occupy all thirteen rooms of the Main Galleries, featuring both well-known works and new pieces created specifically for the occasion, including drawings, sculptures, and installations. Gormley, acclaimed for his sculptures and public interventions exploring the relationship between the human body and space, works at the intersection of land art, performance, and minimalism. His practice critically engages his own body and others', investigating connections between humans, nature, and the universe. The exhibition invites visitors to relate to their own bodies through installations interacting with the gallery spaces. The Royal Academy continues its program of showcasing living artists such as David Hockney, Anselm Kiefer, Ai Weiwei, and an upcoming Marina Abramović show. Dates: 21 September to 3 December 2019.
