Antonio Verri retrospective at Museo Castromediano, Lecce

The exhibition "Verri Antonio Leonardo. Una stupenda generazione" at Museo Castromediano in Lecce honors the late poet Antonio Verri (1949–1993), known as "Ar, il Gran Saraceno." Verri, a journalist and cultural activist from Caprarica di Lecce, championed literature as an ethical and social force, rejecting commercial publishing. The show features fragments from his work "Il pane sotto la neve" alongside drawings by artists Edoardo De Candia, Ezechiele Leandro, and Gaetano Martinez, originally published in his "Dopopensionante" portfolios. Verri founded numerous magazines, including "Quotidiano dei poeti" (1989), aiming to connect Salento intellectuals and free local culture from folkloric stereotypes. Influenced by Bodini, Gadda, Pavese, Joyce, and the Beat Generation, he urged writers to resist cultural homogenization and profit-driven institutions. The retrospective is organized by Fondo Verri, Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, and the municipalities of Lecce and Caprarica.
