Antonio Scaccabarozzi's art inspires Maria Calderara's fashion collection in Milan
Fashion designer and art enthusiast Maria Calderara presents a new collection inspired by the late artist Antonio Scaccabarozzi (1936-2008), titled "Roundriver," during Milan Fashion Week at her atelier in Via Lazzaretto. The Spring-Summer 2024 collection incorporates Scaccabarozzi's key themes of water and circles, featuring garments made from unusual materials like thin polyethylene, echoing his later works. The exhibition juxtaposes Calderara's clothing with Scaccabarozzi's installations, including "Banchisa Rossa" (2004) and "Delimitazione di 360 cm cubi d'acqua" (1981). A black dress embroidered with multiple "no" references Scaccabarozzi's work "176 volte NO" (1983) but addresses violence against women. The show also includes one of Scaccabarozzi's "Essenziali" columns, "Altezza d'uomo" (1990), which serves as a self-portrait. The exhibition is supported by gallerist Francesco Clivio and the Archivio Scaccabarozzi.
