Antonio Ottomanelli's 'Simple Future' at Spazio Murat, Bari

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Antonio Ottomanelli, a photographer and architect born in Bari in 1982, presents his first solo exhibition 'Simple Future' at Spazio Murat in Bari, running until March 26, 2022. Curated by Francesco Zanot, the show has a retrospective feel, featuring sixteen photographs, maps, and works that trace Ottomanelli's personal geography. His research spans San Paolo, New York, and the Middle East—including Baghdad, Kabul, Gaza, and Beirut—where he captured metaphysical architectures scarred by war, with human presence only implied. The exhibition also revisits his earlier work on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway and the earthquake-damaged towns of Amatrice and L'Aquila. A site-specific installation titled 'Simple Future' consists of four crates that move and collide via a hi-tech device, evoking tectonic plates and referencing Pino Pascali's 32 square meters of sea. The crates are covered in asphalt, symbolizing public space eroded by speculation and anti-community interests.
